Walter “Wolfman” Washington is an icon on the New Orleans jazz scene. As a teenager, the singer and guitarist was asked to play with Lee Dorsey’s band. He later became an established name in the group of Johnny Adams and, in the sixties, he formed his own band, the All Fools Band. Washington released his first solo album,
Rainin’ In My Heart, in 1981. For a time, he was a sideman for singer Irma Thomas. Washington has been recording regularly over the past 30 years, although he was quiet for a while after 2000. In 2008 he was suddenly back with the album
Doin’ The Funky Thing. Apart from being a fabulous singer, Washington is also a gifted guitarist. He plays classic New Orleans rhythm and blues into which he integrates soul, funk, urban blues and jazz in his own, completely unique way. Music that comes straight from the club circuit of New Orleans’ nightlife.
