Over ten years after the release of the album
Überjam (2002) guitarist
John Scofield (1951) returned to his trusted recipe of jazz fusion, jazz funk and drum ‘n’ bass. In 2002, he had worked with, among others, Avi Bortnick (rhythm guitar & samples). You can hear Bortnick once again on the new album
Überjam Deux, and he is also accompanying Scofield at the North Sea Jazz Festival. Current bassist Andy Hess was also in the studio for the reprise of
Überjam. You hear the familiar tight background, the refined accents of the organ and rhythm guitar, with Scofield’s wonderful phrasing layered over the top. The relaxed style of playing is what truly makes
Überjam Deux a worthy follow-up album. In his impressive career, Scofield has played with giants like Miles Davis, Tony Williams, Jim Hall, Herbie Hancock and Joe Henderson. He has over thirty albums to his name.
