Blurred Lines, the catchy song by
Robin Thicke and Pharrell Williams, was the most popular song of 2013 with 14.8 million downloads, according to the IFPI (the organisation that represents the recording industry worldwide). Last year the song was nominated for three Grammys. Canadian-American Thicke (1977) was born into a family of actors in Los Angeles. He is currently one of the world’s most successful soul and R&B singer-songwriters. He taught himself to play piano when he was seven, began writing songs for R&B artists at sixteen, and by 21 he had already co-written and co-produced hit albums with stars like Michael Jackson, Marc Anthony, P!nk and Christina Aguilera. He released his first solo album
A Beautiful World in 2003 which included the single
When I Get You Alone, which was, strangely enough, a particularly big hit in the Netherlands. Thicke’s most recent album
Blurred Lines was released in 2013.
