Maison Du Malheurwas heard for the first time at the Into The Great Wide Open festival in 2011, on the Island of Vlieland. At that time the band showed that they knew how to strike a chord with audiences with their vintage jazz and R&B. The group is a great party band that revolves around songwriter J.P. Mesker. The music has overtones of Fats Waller and Howlin' Wolf, supplemented by a colorful array of musical styles and instrumentation. The band has toured with blues-swamp icon C.W. Stoneking and their debut album, Wicked Transmission, was released earlier this year. The conglomeration of styles is what makes this collective so special: from honky-tonk Balkan to dance music and folklore. They take great pleasure in playing and their virtuosity is at times astounding. Maison Du Malheur is the perfect party band for the North Sea Jazz Festival.
