Virtuoso American bassist Ron Carter has been at the top of the jazz scene for forty-five years now. During his career he has worked with influential artists like Miles Davis and James Brown and recorded music on over two thousand albums, both as a bandleader and as a sidekick. Recently Carter stepped down as a music professor in New York, but this was not meant to herald his golden years. On stage he is by no means taking things easy. After a couple of earlier performances in Rotterdam with a modest lineup, he will do things a little differently this summer: Carter will be joined at North Sea Jazz by The WDR Big Band. A big band of the German broadcaster WDR that we have seen performing at North Sea Jazz before, with Maceo Parker and Fay Claassen for instance.
