British artist Ivo Neame (1981) can do both: he plays the piano and the saxophone. This makes this talented thirty-something a much-sought-after musician in his home country, and he has already put his mark on many British jazz groups. In his own right too, Neame makes quite an impression. He will come to North Sea Jazz with his octet, a group with whom he released the CD Yatra last year. In Hindu, "yatra" means travel. Neame wants to take his listeners on an expedition and does so alternately with broody pieces, energetic numbers and intensely slow passages. A lot is possible with his eight-member band, so much so that Yatra almost bursts with all these ideas. Staggering and impressive, according to the critics, and a treat for the fan who is in for a bit of adventure.
