Eminent composer and multi-instrumentalist Hermeto Pascoal is one of those artists who embody an entire musical development. His biography reads like a history of music, starting in Brazil and in the end encompassing the entire world. His career started in 1964 when he appeared on albums of as yet unknown artists like Edu Lobo, Elis Regina and Cesar Camargo Mariano, who were to have a major influence on post-bossa nova Brazilian jazz. It brought him together with Airto Moreira and Humberto Clayber, with whom he formed the Sabrasa Trio. Trio Novo and Quarteto Novo followed soon after and they made Pascoal into a rising star. His international breakthrough came in 1971 when he recorded Live-Evil with Miles Davis. The rest is history, or the beginning of an impressive number of recordings and projects. It has left him a virtuoso who is always able to surprise his audience with a dizzying combination of styles and refined rhythms.
