Next Collectiveis a true supergroup: a lineup that consists solely of big names. Earlier this year the collective released its acclaimed debut album Cover Art. Alongside saxophonists Logan Richardson and Walter Smith, the group is made up of guitarist Matthew Stevens, pianist Gerald Clayton, keyboardist Kris Bowers, bassist Ben Williams and drummer Jamire Williams. Bowers is known from the band of Marcus Miller, while pianist Gerald Clayton who was born in the Netherlands has been causing a furore in recent years with his innovative playing. Next Collective's style shows influences from hip hop, punk-funk, R&B and alternative pop music. Moreover, all the members of the group are talented arrangers as you can hear on all ten songs on Cover Art which include interpretations of Bon Iver, Drake, N.E.R.D and Little Dragon numbers. The starring role on the album is reserved for highly acclaimed trumpeter Christian Scott.
