While at school he studied the raps of DMX, Jay-Z, Nas and Notorious B.I.G. and started to compose himself. He first set foot in a recording studio when he was sixteen. Since then the career of rapper Kendrick Lamar has really taken off. Unlike many of his friends, due in part to his musical career, he was able to avoid the gangster life that dominated his environment. He quickly built up a fanshare with the mixtapes and EPs he released and the big boys - like Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg - started to notice him. Today, it is impossible to ignore him because Lamar is the latest West Coast rap star. His raps are fluid and honest. They are never about violence but rather about his own life. His debut album Section.80 (2011) was received to wide acclaim everywhere, its successorgood kid, m.A.A.d city(2012) got even better reviews.
