On his debut album All I Want Is You (2010) Miguel already demonstrated that he is not just one of the crowd of R&B singers. With the album's successor Kaleidoscope Dream he will convince those who have any lingering doubts. Miguel is not afraid to look beyond sweet bubblegum songs. At home he listens to Queen and The Rolling Stones and this can be heard on his second album. His soul sound has taken on a stadium quality. The songs are spacey and offer the opportunity to really go at it in a live setting. His voice is soft but does betray some raw edges. Thematically he has the courage to come close to Prince by singing about the darker sides of sex and relationships. It will undoubtedly move his female fans, but it also shows that 26-year-old Miguel has found his own style rapidly.
