About
Joris Roelofs, born in France and raised in Amsterdam, is a phenomenon: a former member of the Vienna Art Orchestra and soloist with the Jazz Orchestraof the Concertgebouw. Two years after winning the Pim Jacobs Prize in 2001, his talent was also discovered beyond the Netherlands. He became the first ever non-American to win the Stan Getz/Clifford Brown Fellowship Award. This ultimately led to an invitation to enter the Thelonious Monk International Saxophone Competition in 2008. Roelofs' debut album Introducing Joris Roelofs received nothing but praise from the critics. The alto saxophonist and bass clarinetist is mainly known for his lyrical playing of ballads and his magnificent technique in fast pieces. Roelofs also plays in the Chamber Tones Trio. He is appearing in Rotterdam with his own trio made up of bassist Matt Penman and drummer Ted Poor.
