With an average age of not quite seventeen, Oosterdok 4 is the youngest jazz quartet of the Netherlands. Gideon Tazelaar (saxophone), Stefan Bos (piano), Tijs Klaassen (double bass) and Wouter Kuhn (drums) won the Prinses Christina Jazz Concours last year because of their mature interplay and their harmonic and melodic imagination. With the compliments of a raving jury the foursome also won a highly desirable performance at North Sea Jazz. The four wunderkinder are still students at the Amsterdams Conservatory, but with their fresh take on mostly traditional works they are getting gigs far beyond the Amsterdam canals. Pieces by John Coltrane, among others, are given new life convincingly by the young Oosterdok 4, who are named after the stretch of water close by the conservatory.
