What do you get when you mix quite a lot of young Rotterdam musical talent with the conservatory and a healthy dose of black music history? Right, Re:Freshed Orchestra. The colorful collection of musicians honors musical heroes like Nina Simone, Fela Kuti, Sly & The Family Stone and Gil Scott-Heron with great pleasure. For their debut album Re:Encore they gave the repertoire of rapper Jay-Z a fresh re-interpretation. Complete with rappers, strings, and wind instruments you can expect everything with this team, from hip hop to jazz, from Afro beat to reggae. In the past, they have shared the stage with Tony Allen and others. The ensemble has made the adventurous Grounds pop stage in Rotterdam its home base, but for a year now the group has been on tour and the Netherlands will not be able to miss the enthusiastic mix by Re:Freshed Orchestra.
