Sometimes music history suddenly comes to life. It happens when supergroup The Cookers enters the stage: an American collective of seven gentlemen who have played with the greatest musicians in the world of jazz, during their decades-long careers. From Art Blakey to Art Pepper, from Dexter Gordon to Max Roach. Vivacious virtuosos Billy Harper, Eddie Henderson, David Weiss, Donald Harrison, George Cables, Cecil McBee and Billy Hart have each been part of jazz history. A lot of history, yet at the same time there is definitely a future for this group. The veterans still propel one another to great heights and that makes for a great spectacle on stage. That these men are regular jazz cats can also be deduced from the name of the group, based on Freddie Hubbard's classic album Night of the Cookers.
