“Dizzy discovered the harmonics of bebop at the piano. Charlie Parker was more the man for melodies, Gillespie was the one for harmonics,” says pianist Rein de Graaff (1942), aka “Professor Bop”. And yet in the seventies he also played themodal and free jazzof the time, in the footsteps of Miles Davis, McCoy Tyner and John Coltrane. Bird 'n' Trane Music is what he calls this concert featuring two giants of British jazz. Alto saxophonist Peter King (1940) will conjure up memories of Charlie Parker, while tenor player Alan Skidmore(1942) has proved that he has made the spirit of John Coltrane his own. Most of the program is dedicated to the music of 'Trane'. The lineup includes bassist Marius Beets (1966) and drummer Eric Ineke (1947) who are regular members of the Rein de Graaff Trio and are held in high regard on the Dutch jazz scene.
