Since it was founded in 1994, New Cool Collective has performed at the North Sea Jazz Festival numerous times. And rightly so, because the collective surrounding saxophonist and front man Benjamin Herman has been among the world's best for years with a unique blend of jazz, afrobeat, dance, Latin and salsa. That the eight-member formation remains up to date is mainly due to the fact that these Dutch high-energy soul-jazz pioneers are able to re-invent and re-discover themselves again and again. Thus, New Cool Collective transforms itself regularly into a big band by adding eleven extra musicians and continuously looks for unusual collaborations, like the ones with afrobeat legend Tony Allen, poet Jules Deelder and Zwolle polder rapper Typhoon. In Ahoy, the Netherlands' most swinging jazz formation will mainly be playing pieces from the latest album that was released this spring. It is guaranteed to be a big party, as per usual.
