Two titans of jazz sharing the stage at the North Sea Jazz Festival. Between them, Dee Dee Bridgewater (1950) and pianist Ramsey Lewis (1935) have won several Grammy Awards, America's major music award. Together they can draw on an oeuvre of sizeable dimensions. Bridgewater recently released the beautiful album Midnight Sun, a collection of intimate love songs by, among others, Johnny Mercer, Charles Trenet and Sammy Cahn. The multi-award-winning singer is in good company with pianist Ramsey Lewis. He debuted in 1965 and quickly made a name for himself in bebop. Since then Lewis has explored many other genres. In 1974 he had a huge crossover hit with the album Sun Goddess which he recorded with Maurice White of Earth, Wind & Fire. In 2013, after more than eighty albums, Lewis is still going strong.
