Pianist Chick Corea explains it very clearly: “The concept for this new band comes from my group Return for Forever. What is so constant about it? The loving communication between the artist, the music he creates and the public. Wherever it may be; a club, a saloon, a stadium or a concert hall.” That communication is taken care of by Corea (1941) with his new group The Vigil, consisting of some talented youngsters (guitarist Charles Altura and drummer Marcus Gilmore) and two more experienced musicians. Bassist Christian McBride has been great in his profession for many years, and London saxophonist Tim Garland has also gained a heck of a reputation, with Ronnie Scott and Joe Locke, among others. Garland composes and arranges at a high level; it earned him a Grammy for his work on Corea's album The New Crystal Silence. The band will play new pieces as well as updated arrangements of Corea classics.
