Singer, songwriter and guitarist Andy Allo is perhaps best known as a member of Prince's band, with which she performed three night concerts at North Sea Jazz in 2011. But she is so much more: recently, Allo released her second album Superconductor, the successor to 2009's UnFresh. For her debut album, Allo says she created a genre called Alter.Hip.Soul, while the compositions on her new album "incorporate a variety of layers and a whole lot of funk". Prince functioned as the executive producer and arranger on Superconductor, as well as co-writing three of the nine songs with Allo, who wrote the other six herself. The musician grew up in Cameroon, where her mother taught her how to play the piano at age seven and she found her voice by singing with her older sister. Her father introduced her to music by Dolly Parton, Miriam Makeba and Fleetwood Mac, among others. At the festival, she will perform an acoustic set.
