Pianist-singer Ruben Hein (1982) is a regular do-it-all. At least, that is the opinion of colleagues of the man, whom we may still call a "rising young star". He was educated at the conservatory in Amsterdam and specialized in jazz piano (he graduated in 2008), but he also sees himself as a singer. He discovered this talent during a gig on a cruise ship: "I could play there, but then I had to sing, too. I just did it." While studying, Ruben Hein was also working a lot, for instance in the band of comedian Hans Teeuwen and the Dutch hip hop duo Pete Philly & Perquisite. His first CD Loose Fit was released in 2010 on Blue Note and recently his fourth Hopscotch came out on EMI. In between he also recorded the only-jazz piano album Revisited. Warm, groovy, airy, spacey - keywords for his new CD, on which Hein has let go of his jazz roots a little.
