If you have the electric keyboards on Miles Davis' Bitches Brew etched into your memory, you already know Joe Zawinul. The man who not only introduced the electric piano into jazz, but also drove jazz rock and fusion to great heights with Weather Report, together with Miles Davis and later with Wayne Shorter. Weather Report's live performances were marked by playing their own compositions with different lineups made up of versatile musicians who developed each piece even further. The same was true for Zawinul's band The Syndicate which he formed in 1986 after Weather Report split up, and still applies to The Syndicate that has continued Zawinul's musical legacy even after he passed away in 2007. In 2012, the group released File Under Zawinul which includes six originals by the master that have never been previously released.
