Singer-songwriter James Hunter (1962) grew up in a working class family in England. As a teenager he was captivated by American soul and R&B. In the nineties he sang backing vocals for Van Morrison. But around 2003 Hunter found himself without a job at the age of 41. He decided to perform in the street. A meeting with an American tourist led to a recording contract and his debut album People Gonna Talk was released in 2006. The record received a lot of airplay on American radio and was nominated for a Grammy. His latest album, Minute By Minute, was recorded in the US and produced by Gabriel Roth. Hunter sounds like a modern Sam Cooke, his greatest idol, but he doesn't shy away from some ska or funk. He has rocked Rotterdam before, and as a tribute to his loyal band members he does so now under the nomer The James Hunter Six.
