When someone turns fifty, it's cause for celebration. And what could be more fun than letting the birthday boy hang up his own musical bunting? This was the reason to ask trumpeter Eric Vloeimans to choose his own project for the North Sea Jazz Festival this year. For this spectacle the Rotterdam artist opted for the Limburgs Symfonie Orkest and hired Martin Fondse as composer and arranger. That Vloeimans, seeing Abraham, is sharing the stage with the almost 130-year-old symphonic orchestra is not surprising. For many years now, he has shown a preference for large ensembles. The music of the Boy Edgar Prize winner is perfect for experimenting with strings and a large orchestra. Vloeimans has already played with the Metropole Orkest, the Marinierskapel and Het Gelders Orkest. The performance at North Sea Jazz will be colored in that characteristic Vloeimans way; with beautiful solos, humor and, especially, a lot of love for the music.
