Although Jan van Duikeren released his first album Fingerprint only last winter, he is certainly no newcomer to the jazz scene. For the past ten years the trumpeter has played at nearly every edition of North Sea Jazz with big names like Candy Dulfer, Paul Weller and the New Cool Collective. He has also written compositions and arrangements for the likes of Sheila E., Trijntje Oosterhuis and Mathilde Santing. He clearly is a versatile artist, although he previously operated behind the scenes. This year, the trumpet player from Rotterdam will be in the spotlight himself, bringing his Jan van Duikeren's Fingerprint to Ahoy. Just like on the album, which the 36-year-old musician himself describes as "an album to be played nice and loud in the car," Van Duikeren will be performing his own compositions on stage, an adventurous blend ofhardbop, gospel, funk, soul and nu-jazz.
