American soul singer Aloe Blacc already had a long career as a rapper behind him when he released the soul single I Need A Dollar in 2010. Exchanging rap for singing did him no harm: the single became a worldwide hit and now, two years later, is even regarded as a modern pop classic. Blacc based the song on his own plight after losing his job as a consultant. The bitter-sweet happiness of the song was in keeping with the economic malaise of the times. After two successful years, in 2012 Blacc is focusing on the future. He is busy writing new material and will continue giving concerts over the summer. In his lively stage performances, Blacc is invariably given excellent backing by a large ensemble, and reggae, funk and soul blend together into a joyous, swinging pop concert.
