Kyteman has been called the Mozart of hip-hop. The bandleader cum trumpeter made his debut on stage in 2009 with The Hermit Sessions. The album became an immediate success, but the live shows with his hip-hop orchestra were received even better. Kyteman, whose real name is Colin Benders, has won just about every national pop music prize, and North Sea Jazz is not new territory for him either. Last year he was one of the Carte Blanche guests, which meant he was on stage in Ahoy every day of the festival. More recently, he released his long-awaited second album, The Kyteman Orchestra. His hip-hop orchestra has been transformed and adapted; under the name The Kyteman Orchestra the ensemble now has a 30-member choir and even opera singers. This rejuvenated formula has struck a chord with the public. For several weeks the album held the number-one position on the charts and live shows were sold out in no time. There's no doubt in our mind, Kyteman will blow off the roof of Ahoy, once again.
