Singer Waylon, whose real name is Willem Bijkerk, chose the name of his greatest idol Waylon Jennings and for years gained experience on the country scene. He then moved on to more soulful songs, was offered a contract by Universal Music and became the first Dutch artist to sign with the famous Motown label. He scored a major hit with his first single Wicked Way, and his debut album Wicked Ways went platinum. His success is no longer limited to the low countries; in 2010 Waylon was the supporting act for Whitney Houston during her tour of the UK and Ireland. Later that year he did a solo tour of Canada. Last year his second album After All was released. He can now come and perform it at North Sea Jazz, after he saved the day at last year's edition when he was asked to fill in for the singer Rumer at the last minute.
