It all started in 2008 during a sweltering evening of music in Amsterdam. The theme was the steamy music of the American deep South, of New Orleans, to be more specific. Drummer and initiator Toon Oomen called the evening "Gumbo Night" and a hit was born. At the North Sea Jazz Festival, with justified pride, Oomen will present highlights of last season's events. A chain of R&B, jazz and funk from New Orleans, a conga line of audience and musicians snaking its way through the crowd, all making a colorful whole, governed by an irresistible groove. Given the ingredients of Gumbo Circus this is all sure to happen. The only question is: when listening to this summer cocktail of music, will anyone be able to resist the pull?
