In the Netherlands there are few pianists with a more adventurous spirit than Michiel Braam. His free spirit makes it possible for him to present a lineup of stars at this year's North Sea Jazz Festival: the Hybrid 10tet. This much-talked-about dectet that Braam put together, went on tour for the first time last year, and is made up of musicians from every corner of the globe. From the classical music world we have the highly acclaimed Matangi String Quartet, and Pieter Douma and Dirk-Peter Kölsch form the solid, rock rhythm section. Horn players Carl Ludwig Hübsch, Nils Wogram and Magnus Broo are also part of Braam's this wonderful ensemble. In his compositions, Braam allows all the musicians the freedom to explore their own genre, and improvisation also plays a big role when the band is on stage.
