The deep tones of tenor saxophonist David Murray combined with the raspy voice of Macy Gray. Murray has already been playing with the very best on the jazz scene for 35 years. He started out with an experimental sound and now blends those qualities of free jazz with straight-ahead jazz in his own unique way. He also has a softer side, as demonstrated on his latest album in his interpretations of the Spanish songs of Nat King Cole. In recent years Murray has been composing a lot for large ensembles, and is now bringing his big band to Ahoy. Macy Gray has been an established name in alternative soul since her debut album On How Life Is was released in 2000. She recently chose for a completely different kind of project: an album of covers of recent alternative rock hits. Murray and Gray sharing a stage promises to be a musical journey of discovery and recognition.
