James Morrison (1984) already has several international hits to his name. He has also played at many festivals, but he has never performed at the North Sea Jazz Festival. This summer, the English singer-songwriter is finally coming to Rotterdam. Morrison's voice has a smoky edge to it, in his own words the result of a bout of whooping cough in his childhood. After traveling around a lot with his mother, he arrived in Cornwall as a teenager and began performing as a street musician. His first single You Give Me Something (2006) was an immediate hit. Last fall Morrison released his third album, The Awakening, his most personal recording to date. Morrison recently became at once a father for the first time and lost his own father. He speaks to his father and daughter respectively in moving songs like Up and One Life.
