Although Ahmad Jamaltours the jazz circuit more frequently than most musicians, he is rarely seen on stage in the Netherlands. The highly acclaimed American pianist's career was boosted by Miles Davis who said that Jamal had a great influence on his work. In 1951 Jamal released his debut album Ahmad's Blues and he has continued to release powerful albums right up until today. His latest work is entitled Blue Moon. According to Jamal, he drew inspiration for this album from jazz, Broadway productions and film noir, and the result is simply amazing. The way Jamal plays with spaces, silences and dynamics is unparalleled, and you can hear just how well he does this on Blue Moon. The organizers decided to ask Jamal to perform this year due to this album as well as the success of his performance at last year's North Sea Jazz Festival.
