Syrian clarinetist Kinan Azmeh and Sri Lankan born pianist Dinuk Wijeratne both studied Western classical music, but their curiosity and adventurous spirit lifted them out of that musical framework with ease. For this pair, boundaries are there to be crossed and both Azmeh and Wijeratne have already shared stages with some giants of jazz. Highly acclaimed as a pianist, Wijeratne is based in Canada and is a graduate of the famous Juilliard School in New York. He has also made a name for himself as a conductor. Highly praised in his homeland, clarinetist Azmeh studied at the Conservatory of Damascus and in his own words wants to abolish musical barriers and prejudices. In Rotterdam the duo will be joined by trumpeter Eric Vloeimans, who has appeared at the North Sea Jazz Festival many times.
