By signing on to perform his composition Nights On Earth, Vince Mendoza, the American director of the Metropole Orkest committed himself to a special project for the North Sea Jazz festival. The six-time Grammy Award winner is known for his arrangements for Joni Mitchell, Sting and Björk, among others. While traveling the world, he was inspired by the various cultures and looked up musicians there. So he will introduce the Vietnamese-French guitarist Nguyên Lê, the Brazilian vocalist Luciana Souza and the Argentinian percussionist Marcio Doctor on the festival stage. But the row of interesting guests doesn't end there. Other participants are: master guitarist John Scofield, saxophonist Joe Lovano and drummer Peter Erskine. Mendoza has had a long working relationship with these latter artists.. The concert will be part of the overall theme of North Sea Jazz 2012, Jazz In The Third Space. It stands for the ever-growing globalization of jazz and other music.
