American drummer Tom Rainey has played on over eighty albums during a career that has lasted a quarter of a century already. It is no wonder really, since the man from California is known to be a reliable sideman. Versatile, technically sublime and a musician who is able to combine several styles. Not just jazz, but pop, rock and folk, too, are all devoured by this percussionist. He is best known for his work with saxophonist Tim Berne and pianist Kenny Werner. Critics have dubbed Rainey "the master of improvisation". His latest project, Eldorado Trio that he recorded Louis Sclavis and Craig Taborn, was released in 2010.
