Does piano music reflect the soul? When listening to the music of Angelica Sanchez (Phoenix, 1972) the answer is simply an emphatic 'yes'. Especially on her latest solo album A Little House she devotes plenty of space to a very personal recital that is brought to the fore in explosions of unbridled energy. Free jazz with a human face. In 1995 Sanchez left Arizona for New York where she played with Mario Pavona, Paul Motian, Judy Silvano and Greg Tardy. She then founded her own quartet. Her debut album Mirror Me was released in 2003 and immediately won several awards. Sanchez's husband Tony Malaby is the group's saxophonist and he will be part of her quintet at the North Sea Jazz Festival. The remaining musicians are also loyal members of the band: bassist Drew Gress and drummer Tom Rainey have been there from the outset. French guitarist Marc Ducret completes the group.
