American bassist Ron Carter (74) lives and breathes jazz history. After his debut with saxophonist Eric Dolphy in 1960, he played with icons like Bill Evans, Dexter Gordon, Gil Evans and Cannonball Adderley. And for a number of years he was also a member of the Miles Davis Quintet. As a member of that band he played on legendary albums like E.S.P. and Seven Steps To Heaven. Just like last time, Carter will bring his own trio to Rotterdam for this edition. The bassist will also bring along famed pianist Donald Vega and the very experienced guitarist Russell Malone. Pianist Vega left Nicaragua for Los Angeles at the age of fourteen and was soon discovered by composer Henry Mancini. Guitarist Malone was part of the successful big band of Harry Connick Jr. in the '90s and has played with the Diana Krall Trio.
