Saxophonist James Carter moves effortlessly from one jazz style to another, while playing virtually every type of saxophone there is. Born in Detroit in 1969, in his youth Carter absorbed all the music he heard there: funk, fusion, rock, soul - as well as every form of jazz. This enables him to move in modern jazz and soul jazz circles alike. In 2005 he released his album Out of Nowhere with which he singlehandedly breathed fresh life into the saxophone/organ tradition. He did this again with his latest recording At The Crossroads (2011). At virtually the same time, he released the album Caribbean Rhapsody which takes a completely different direction: a concerto for saxophone and orchestra. James Carter & his Organ Trio are performing with, among others, singer Gregory Porter, organistGerard Gibbs andguitarist Mark Whitfield.
