In recent years, Troy'Trombone Shorty' Andrews has rocketed to fame as a trombonist and trumpeter. His got his nickname because as a six-year-old bandleader he was shorter than his trombone. Andrews comes from the New Orleans brass tradition. He grew up in the famous Tremé district and as a teenager was leader of the Stooges Brass Band. When he was twelve he received a standing ovation from U2's Bono and The Edge. The now 23-year-old musician has become a superstar in record time. While his career as a soloist is rich, he has also played on the albums of pop idols like Lenny Kravitz and Jeff Beck. On his latest album For True, Andrews was assisted by these two artists as well as Kid Rock and Warren Hayes. Andrews' mix of funk and hip-hop is unique, and combined with his charisma makes him a unique musical personality. In the US he is also an actor and has appeared in a variety of TV series.
