Saxophonist Tineke Postma is one of the most notable export hits of the Dutch jazz scene. After graduating cum laude from the Amsterdam conservatory, a truly fabulous solo career soon followed. Postma took to heart the lessons she learned in New York (from David Liebman and Chris Potter, among others) and integrated them into her own recognizable style. She has steadily built up an impressive oeuvre since the release of her debut album First Avenue in 2003. Postma's fourth CD The Traveller (2009) was highly praised all over the world. The same is true of her new album The Dawn of Light that came out earlier this year. She recorded the new CD with her Tineke Postma Quartet that consists of drummer Martijn Vink, bassist Frans van der Hoeven and pianist Marc van Roon. A guest role is reserved for Grammy Award winner and friend Esperanza Spalding, who sings the song Leave Me A Place Underground on the album.
