They were one of the first to merge DJ culture with world music. Ten years ago, the Gotan Project released La Revancha Del Tango and the tango was suddenly well and truly back. As was the bandoneón; a type of concertina, combined with modern electronics, the sound that makes the Gotan Project unique. On their second album, the French-Argentine group turned more towards jazz. In 2010 they released Tango 3.0. Once again the streets of Buenos Aires are close by - as well as those of Paris. At the same time, the group was exploring Americana, rockabilly and, naturally, new beats and laid-back musical atmosphere sketches. The album smoothly makes excursions to touch on South American football commentary, New Orleans jazz funerals and Argentine literature. Once again it is one hundred percent Gotan, innovative, yet with a feel for tradition and an unblinkered view.
