Exactly ten years ago, Taraf de Haïdouks recorded the groundbreaking album Band Of Gypsies. On this recording, several songs were made in cooperation with the Macedonian brass band Kocani Orkestar. In order to celebrate the twentieth anniversary of the Romanian gypsy band, their mutual project has been brought back to life and the two Roma bands have even recorded an entire album together. On Band Of Gypsies 2 (2011) you will find compositions and arrangements that were written by the entire orchestra, consisting of 26 musicians. This wouldn't be remarkable, if it weren't for the fact that the members of these two Balkan big bands do not speak each other's language. All this results in an exciting mix of urban Balkan pop and Romanian medieval ballads, all with a touch of Turkish and even Bollywood influences. At this year's festival, the forces of both gypsy groups are forged together into an exhilarating live show, in which their sweeping passion for music again is the binding element for both cultures.
