We know drummer Al Foster (1944) from his famous collaboration with Miles Davis as well as for his work with Herbie Hancock and Sonny Rollins. He has now been playing for years with his own quartet of which Israeli saxophonist Eli Degibri (1978) is a permanent member. The lineup Foster is bringing to Rotterdam is quite simply sensational. On the bass is the great George Mraz, who was born in Czechoslovakia in 1944 and developed into a master bass player in the US. Mraz has worked with virtually all the greats of his time. The same applies to pianist Fred Hersch (1955), who grew up in Cincinnati and tried his luck as a musician in New York at a young age. People like Stan Getz, Joe Henderson and Art Farmer were eager to profit from his subtle accompaniment. This quartet of masters will be playing a tribute to tenor saxophonist Joe Henderson at the North Sea Jazz Festival.
