For a long time, the low countries had to make do without any lineups that performed in the tradition of the American big band. That is, until pianist-arranger Henk Meutgeert, bassist Frans van Geest and drummer Hans Dekker founded the New Concert Big Band in 1996, which was rechristened Jazzorchestra of the Concertgebouw after their collaboration with the Concertgebouw. Since then, the orchestra hasn't just conquered the Netherlands, but also every other continent, note by note. The jazz orchestra has built up a global reputation, a repertoire varying from Gershwin to Ellington, and an impressive collection of original pieces. Their unique character, identity and vision on big band music are distinguishing features that the orchestra has developed since its foundation. Just like the 2010 album Blues For The Date, that consists entirely of original compositions by their regular pianist Peter Beets.
