Three generations of jazz legends sharing a single stage: vocalists Al Jarreau, Kurt Elling and Jon Hendricks. This unique trio will be backed by the Metropole Orkest, conducted by Vince Mendoza. At the age of 71, Jarreau still shows no signs of wear and tear. Both he and his great source of inspiration, Hendricks, are known as masters of scat singing: improvised singing with the voice imitating the instruments. Jarreau has always called Hendricks, who will celebrate his 90th birthday in September, "the best jazz singer on earth". Kurt Elling is the youngest of the three at 45, however, he has been named Jazz Vocalist of the Year by Downbeat magazine every year since 2002. He too is a scat singer for whom Hendricks serves as a major role model. Elling has also added another style: the rant, in which he improvises words on the spot.
