Three bandleaders, one big band. An irregular setting that forms the basis of this famous jazz orchestra. In 1985 drummer Jeff Hamilton started the Clayton-Hamilton Jazz Orchestra together with bassist John Clayton and his brother Jeff Clayton. They formed a big band with an all-star lineup of Los Angeles-based musicians. It has brought them wonderful artistic collaborations as well as quite a few Grammy nominations and awards. At North Sea Jazz they will welcome two special guests. Jazz guitarist-vocalist John Pizzarelli is able to take control of any stage with his soft-spoken voice and charm. His biggest strength is performing jazz standards in his very own, extremely swinging fashion. Pizzarelli often works together with his father, jazz guitarist and banjo player Bucky Pizzarelli, and his wife Jessica Molaskey. He has also performed with a long line of music legends like Frank Sinatra and Rosemary Clooney. Last year,Trijntje Oosterhuis recorded her album Sundays in New York with the orchestra. It was a dream come true, she said afterwards. The special collaboration will be repeated at the festival.
