Paul Simon's appearance at the North Sea Jazz Festival means a chance to see one of the most successful singer-songwriters of the past forty years. The American, who has already won thirteen Grammy Awards in his illustrious career, first became famous as the writing brain of the duo Simon & Garfunkel. The now 69 year-old singer has proven that he is equally capable as a solo artist with recordings like the masterpiece Graceland (1986), tinted with African rhythms. Simon's latest album was recently released, making a tour a natural next step. The New Jersey-born singer-songwriter has a clear opinion of So Beautiful Or So What (2011): "It's the best thing I've done in the last twenty years." The rave reviews in the press prove that Simon is right: he has indeed created the perfect balance between authentic sounds, and surprising and intriguing narrative lines on this album, produced by Phil Ramone.
