Jaga Jazzist have been around for fifteen years already, even though their lead man and major composer Lars Horntveth is not yet thirty! All nine members of the band are multi-instrumentalists. And all nine also play important roles in other Norwegian groups. In short: they dominate Norway's music scene, but Jaga Jazzist naturally remains their main focus. Their sixth album, One Armed Bandit, was released earlier this year, five years after their previous album. A few months ago, at a concert of the band in the Melkweg, it was clear that they are in absolutely top form. With three personal light and sound technicians they deliver a show that is unparalleled. It seems as if they take off with their audience during perfectly executed cacophonic outbursts, only to settle down into more subtle passages a little later. Genre? The band has a list of one hundred acts that have inspired them, including Zappa, Sun Ra, Sly Stone and Gil Evans. So, the genre: Jaga Jazzist!
