The idiosyncratic singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Rickie Lee Jones has travelled her own course for over thirty years, somewhere between folk, pop, R&B and jazz. Her career, which began so promisingly with a Grammy Award in 1979, has had its ups and downs. But in recent years, Jones is sounding and looking more radiant than ever and she is a very welcome guest at the North Sea Jazz Festival. Her new album Balm in Gilead contains many gems penned by Jones, as well as the heartbreaking cover song The Moon Is Gold. Her father Richard Loris Jones wrote the song in 1954 for his newborn daughter, Rickie Lee. In turn, Rickie Lee wrote Wild Girl for her own daughter Charlotte Rose for her 21st birthday.
