A motorbike race between Radiohead, Clark and Squarepusher. That was how a member of staff at the Bimhuis described the multi-facetted sound of Knalpot. Electro, dub, post-rock and jazz are the most tangible elements, but the sound of Knalpot remains an extreme hybrid mix of diverse styles. A Knalpot set almost never sounds the same because the duo always improvises. With guitar, Casio, drums and a lot of analogue electronics, Knalpot is capable of producing a storm of sound, only to be whisper-soft a little later. The Franco-Austrian duo of Raphael Vanoli and Gerri Jäger operates out of Amsterdam and has been whipping up a frenzy since their debut EP Serious Outtakes was released in October 2009. Knalpot recently played in St. Petersburg and just before that they represented the Netherlands at the big three-day 12 Points! festival for new European jazz in Stavanger, Norway. A new release is expected soon.
